PRIVATE RESIDENCE

Sierra Madre, California

The planting design for Stonegate Lot 5 has been conceived in response to several important factors, including the Mediterranean style of the architecture, the functional and aesthetic desires of the Owner, geology, topography, microclimate, soil type, water conservation, ecology and the existing natural context.

The predominant theme of the planting design is Mediterranean using species and cultivars such as Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unedo), Mediterranean Fan Palm (Chamaerops humilis), Manzanita (Bigberry and Howard McMinn), Rosemary and Artemesia.  A sub-theme is Southwestern Chaparral given the close proximity to the adjacent foothills.

Important desires of the Owner included a small lawn area, a Jacaranda tree, a garden environment surrounding the rear patio, colorful plantings, views of the mountains and long vistas to the south and east.
