VIRTUA VOORHEES HOSPITAL
Voorhees, New Jersey
Virtua Voorhees provides state-of-the-art, high-level care in a family-centered atmosphere. The 120-acre campus in New Jersey includes a 368-bed inpatient bed tower, medical office building, pediatrics medical office building, and ambulatory care center.
The campus centers around separate entries, with the site's south half dedicated to the Ambulatory Care Center and Medical Offices Buildings, and the site's north half dedicated to the Bed Tower. The exterior takes its cues from regional architecture, combining energy-efficient glass, maintenance-free wood panels, engineered stone panels, and natural hues.
Adjacent to a protected pine barren forest, Virtua's campus is based on a "garden in the forest" concept. The campus includes four courtyards and three green roof gardens to provide a variety of outdoor healing spaces. The pediatric garden, for example, features soft rubberized paving, animal sculptures that double as play equipment, and low tables that serve as activity spaces for children. Finally, visual-buffer fences mix existing and native vegetation.
